IP address lookup and information tool

Here you can find all lookup results for public IP address owned by SoftLayer Technologies. This includes the type of address, DNS lookup information, ISP and location details. At the bottom of the page you can find more functions like a detailed location map, abuse report, WHOIS information and an e-mail server blacklist check.

When designing the Internet addressing architecture, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) have reserved various Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and networks of various sizes (/8, /24, etc.) for special purposes or for future use. The rest of the /8 network blocks, where for instance is a part of, were assigned to single organizations or groups of related organizations. This was done by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) or through a regional Internet registry, or in short a RIR.
As IPv4 address exhaustion has advanced to its final stages, some organizations have returned their allocated blocks to assist in the delay of the exhaustion date.

WHOIS lookup

WHOIS is an international recognized protocol to query worldwide databases that store information on internet resources. It was documented in RFC 3912 by the Internet Society back in 2004, but is still current. It has been reported that the protocol will soon be obsolete due to privacy reasons, and will be replaced with a less transparent system.
